Porn website Brazzers is once again the victim of a data breach. According to security breach monitoring site the leaked data includes 790,724 unique email addresses besides usernames and plaintext passwords. The data has been lifted from a separate site Brazzers forum; Motherboard has reported that it could include details of users who have never signed up for the forum.
The security compromise was first seen by data breach monitoring site vigilante.pw which then sent the details to Motherboard website for confirmation. The attack was directed at Brazzers forum, which is a companion forum for the site. Both the sites shared user account information and account details of persons who visited the site but did not sign up for the forum are also at risk. Brazzers has informed all users that it has patched up the breach and is effecting corrective measures. Brazzers forum site is also closed for maintenance.
Brazzers is a well-known name in the world of pornography, and the fact that it has 800,000 users in its web forum is quite something. The 800,000 accounts which have been leaked include email addresses, usernames, and passwords. It is not clear if the site more users or it has 800,000 accounts only. The loss of plaintext passwords also means that the attacker could try using username /password combinations to enter other services. This fact also brings into fore the risks of using the same username/ password combination for other sites. Such users are at the greatest risks of such hacks.
The latest break is another lesson for having good passwords which are difficult to crack. Using third-party apps and plugins also leaves a yawning gap in your security. Some of the details were part of a leak which happened in 2012. However, the details were shared between the two sites for ease of operation, and this has led to a serious security compromise situation.
Hacks are bound to happen even with the best websites, and if you are using the same username and password for multiple sites, you are not doing yourself a favor and end up losing your confidential information to a fraudster.
