The Forbes list of the top 10 highest paid actresses for 2016 has two new additions, Mila Kunis and Deepika Padukone. All the earnings of the top 10 stars in between June 2015 to June 2016 add up to $205 million. The top slot is unchanged and is occupied by Jennifer Lawrence who earned $46 million in the course of 12 months. The second slot was held by Ghost Buster actress Melissa McCarthy who made $33 million followed by Avengers star Scarlett Johansson with earnings of $25 million.
Bollywood actress, Deepika Padukone is the new addition to the list and occupies the 10th slot with earnings of $10 million. The “Bajirao Mastani” fame actress is also the highest paid actress in the country with reports that she charges Rs 12 crores for every film. She happens to be the only Indian to feature in the list by Forbes magazine.
Priyanka Chopra could not make the list.
Another actress and a fierce rival of Deepika, Priyanka Chopra was also a top contender but could not make the list. Ms. Padukone will make her Hollywood debut with Vin Diesel in “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage”. Media is abuzz with stories of intense rivalry between the two actresses.
Priyanka will be making her Hollywood debut with Dwayne Johnson starred Baywatch after her well-received lead star role in ABC’s Quantico.
Deepika made her debut in Bollywood opposite Shahrukh Khan in “Om Shanti Om” and has a string of critically acclaimed films to her name which has been well received by critics and has been commercially successful. Many of her films have grossed over Rs. 150 crores at the Box Office. Forbes magazine also mentions the films of the star like “Piku” and “Cocktail.”
The 30-year-old star earns far less than her Hollywood counterparts but makes the shortfall by over a dozen lucrative endorsements. She is also a style icon with her label for an online shopping site.
