Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi happens on the fourth day of the holy month of Bhadrapad. It was one of the most eagerly awaited festivals of Maharashtra and its origin dates to the beginning of the Nineteenth Century when Balgangadhar Tilak started it to unify the nation and also to help instill a feeling of patriotism in the masses.
The dusty streets of Mumbai will transform itself into amazing temples and palaces, theme parks and heritage sites. The state will immerse itself in prayers and festivities, and Ganapathy pandals will open their door for ten days of prayers and celebrations.
Varied Themes for Tabloids
The idea of different tabloids varies from sympathy for the drought stricken farmer of Latur to stories from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani has created the Universe aka the flick “P.K.” while the Mastani Mahal from ‘Bajirao Mastani” has been set up in Lal Maidan.

Labaug’s Raja alias Ganapathy is housed in a replica of Badrinath Temple.
Khetwadi houses giant statues of the Elephant God ranging from 20 to 25 feet. The most interesting are the Tandavroopi Ganesh with its ten arms and bloodshot eyes.
For the first time, the Sidhivinayak Temple has housed a paper pulp Ganesh idol to show its concern for the planet ecology. Some cultural programs will be organized by the cultural temple wing which will showcase burning social and political issues.

One of the themes is Siachin Glacier where the brave soldiers of the Indian army face inhospitable conditions to safeguard the frontiers. More than 100 volunteers toiled endlessly for days to create a replica of the glacier which is also said to be the highest battlefield of the world.
The spokesman for the pandal stated that they also plan to collect 10 Lakh rupees as a donation for the War widows. He added that the country is safe because the fingers of the warriors of the Indian army are on the trigger of their guns.
