National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the latest incursion and attack on an army camp in Baramulla. He also discussed the ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army along the LOC.
Militants had attacked the camp of 46 Rashtriya Rifles in Baramulla. However, the attack was foiled, and the terrorists escaped taking advantage of the darkness. SSP, Baramulla said the security forces were at their highest state of alert and did not retaliate for fear of causing civilian casualties. Two BSF troopers were however injured, and one succumbed to injuries later.
There is no news about how many militants had attacked the camp. An attack two weeks earlier on an army camp in Uri had left 19 troopers dead and over 20 wounded. The four terrorists who carried out the attacks were also killed.
The military camp which is located 53 kilometers from the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. A senior police officer informed a news agency that the firing has stopped and searches have been initiated to catch the culprits. Locals reported that they heard heavy gunfire and loud explosions last night. They immediately switched off all lights and the news came on TV that an army camp has been attacked.
Pakistan Rangers have been firing on Indian positions right after the surgical strikes conducted by India post the Uri attack. Pakistani troops fired at Indian posts at two outposts in the Poonch sector in Jammu region.
Intermittent small arms fire has also been reported in the Chakri border outpost of the BSF and troopers repulsed an intrusion effort by eight to 10 people. A search operation is also going on along the international boundary of the Gurdaspur district.
Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the latest attack and the future course of action. The meeting was attended by all three service chiefs.
