On Thursday, the Cellular association of India said that the mobile service customers who want to get their details of Aadhar deleted from the record have to submit a substitute document for verification. They further declared that the services will continue while the change of documentation process will be done.
COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said that the customers those who want to get their Aadhar details removed from the records are permitted to do so but there is a condition that they are allowed to do this only if they will submit a valid identity and address proof, this declaration was made after the discussions between Telecom players and the Department of Telecom.
All the members of COAI comprises Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea etc, said, like the other important documents for customer verification which includes Passport, PAN card, Driving License and voter ID Card etc Aadhaar also remains a valid document but at the time of taking a new connection no authentication of subscriber details by UIDAI will be done.
Mathew added that Telecom operators always obey the command and rules given by DoT and they will follow the verdict from the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Besides this, they will also wait for the upcoming instructions and commands from the DoT. He also said that for the subscribers, Aadhar is a strong and convenient way.
Mathew said that the users who want to get their details deleted from the records have to make a call to their operators to know about the point of sales or service. After this, they can initiate the request for erasing the details of Aadhar Card.
The government clarified that there is no risk of discontinuation of mobile numbers issued using the details of Aadhaar, subsequent the Supreme Court verdict that restricted the use of the national biometric ID by private companies.
According to the verdict by the Supreme Court in its judgment, it has not given any orders that the mobile number which has been issued using the Aadhaar details has to be disconnected. On this, the report issued by the government said that it is completely false and baseless and nobody needs to get panic or fear at all. It said that people should not trust such false news’s.
