Prime Minister spared some time from his busy schedule and interacted with the medal winners of the 18th Asian Games at his residence on Wednesday.
Mr Modi who always promoted sports, congratulated the athletes who won the medals and praised them for representing India as its best-ever medal tally at the Asian Games.
He said that the medal winner had raised the status of India at a global level and added a lot to India’s stature and pride. He requested them to stay focused and remain grounded. He even asked the sportspersons to use technology to improve their performance.
The Prime Minister Official released a statement said “Prime Minister expressed happiness in seeing young talents rise from the small towns, rural areas and from poor background and win medals for the nation. He said that there is real potential in the rural areas and we should continue nurturing those talents. He added that the outside world is unaware of the day-to-day struggles a sports person has to go through,”
“PM Modi urged the sports persons not to rest based on the laurels achieved and asked them to strive harder for greater glory. He said that the biggest challenge for the medal winners will start now and they should never lose their goal of being in the Olympic Games podium,” it added
The Sports Minister was also present and interacted with the medal achievers. This time India achieved 69 medals at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia in which there are 15 Golds, 24 silver and 30 Bronze medal.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi had even congratulated the participants for winning the medals on his twitter handle and appreciated the efforts made by them.
The continuous efforts and motivation of the Prime Minister has improved the status of the sport of the country. India had won 65 medals at the Guangzhou edition in 2010.
