MediaTek has added a new member to its Helio P System-on Chip family on Tuesday. P22 is the first 12nm SoC that will provide many new features to the smartphone users. Also, this new SoC will prove an important member of the P series SoC’s that consist of P23, P30, and P60. Here, it is worth mentioning that P60 had debuted at MWC 2018 for mid-range devices. This new Helio P22 is for budget smartphones and will be available at the end of second quarter of 2018. The company has already kick-started its production process. The Helio P22 has Cortex A-53 processing units. It will offer support for dual camera set up as well as AI enhancement features.
There are eight cores of Cortex-A-53 in this SoC each with the clock speed of 2.0GHz. The SoC features MediaTek Neuropilot for AI features. It will support common AI frameworks like TensorFlow, Caffe, and Caffe2. There will be an auto select feature that will support advance AI features like Face unlocks and Bokeh mode. This chip can support dual cameras for a combination of 13MP and 8MP with 30fps frame rate.
For high auto exposure, the company has embedded its 3A and Camera Control Unit (CCU) in it. With its capable hardware depth, the Helio P22 will bring real-time Bokeh preview to budget phones. Another very attractive feature of Helio P22 chip is the support for 20:9 aspect ratio with 720X1600 HD+ resolution. Here, it is important to mention that smartphone manufacturers are using 18:9 aspect ratio on their devices. Helio P22 supports Bluetooth 5.0, 4-satellite GNSS, and 4G LTE on both SIM.
The official sources of the company say that Helio P22 will provide access to the premium features at minimal costs. They are expecting to win continuous device makers. The use of Helio P22 will grow the customer database of the smartphone manufacturers.
