The Internet is becoming a crucial part of everyone’s lifestyle these days, while, the developing countries like India are facing the speed issues. As a recent survey concluded that India is at the lowest position in Asia-Pacific, in terms of Internet speed.

The ‘Fourth Quarter, 2015, State of the Internet Report’ revealed that the global average internet connection speed increased about 23 percent to 5.6 Mbps in the ended quarter. It was submitted by Akamai Technologies Inc., which is a global leader in content delivery network services.

As per the global perspective, the average connection speed is increased by 8.6 percent quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) and 23 percent year-over-year (YoY), whereas the global average peak connection speed raised only by 1 percent QoQ, and got a hike by 21 percent, YoY, gaining 32.5 Mbps.

In the ended quarter, October to December last year, the report shows a great YoY growth in the average connection speed and the overall adoption of broadband.

As per the recorded stats, it is calculated that India is having the lowest internet speed of 2.8 Mbps in the Asia-Pacific region, whereas South Korea is at the top with an average connection speed of 26.7 Mbps. Meanwhile, the double-digit quarterly gain in terms of average ‘peak connection speed’ is achieved by only South Korea (95.3 Mbps) and Macao (83.1 Mbps) at 10 percent and 13 percent rise, respectively.

By observing the data, it can be concluded that there is still much work to be performed. As many areas, around the world, are able to support the delivery of broadcast-quality video content online.

The consumers’ expectations for a high-speed connection is increasing over the time as several high-profile events, like one of the most streamed event, the summer games are about to held in Rio this year.

Citing the report, Denmark and Norway encountered the highest yearly gains. Whereas, Iran had the lowermost average connection speed of 1.3 Mbps, followed by Vietnam with an average connection speed of 1.8 Mbps.
