Downtown Abby’s sequel, “Downtown Abbey 2” has been announced by the production to be released on Christmas 2021. Focus Features announced on Monday that it has set production for the sequel with Gareth Neame’s Carnival Films.

The announcement was made via press release that stated, “The original principal cast will all once again return for the second film which began production last week and is set to release Christmas 2021. In addition to the original cast, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West will join the cast.”

The producer of the sequel, Gareth Neame said, “After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much beloved characters of Downton Abbey.”

According to the press release, “Downtown Abbey” 2 is all set to bring the band back together on 22 December, 2021. The first part was released in 2019. The story of Downtown Abbey is based on the popular Edwardian series about British Aristocratic Crawley family and their servants.

Julian Fellowes, the Academy Award winner, has reportedly written the screenplay for “Downtown Abbey 2”. The sequel is going to have Julian Felowes, Gareth Neame, and Liz Trubridge as producers. Moreover, the BAFTA and Emmy-nominated director, Simon Curtis is directing the sequel.

During the press release, the Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said, “There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans.”

The first part, “Downtown Abbey” was a critical as well as a commercial hit, grossing approx. $200 million globally. Certainly, the talks of the sequel soon began after the original movie turned out great, which the cast said was open to in 2019.
