The question has been raised about the DMK President’s Post after the death of a veteran leader and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam patriarch Karunanidhi.
It is reported that the working president of the DMK, Mr Stalin will grab the position without any rival. The election will be held on August 28 when the DMK general council will collect for the purpose.
On Monday, DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan announced for the election and shared that general council would elect the president as well as treasurer of the party. The senior leaders of the DMK party would act as the election officer.
Currently, Mr Stalin is working as a treasurer as well as the working president of the party. It is reported that the audit committee report of the party will also be tabled before the general counsel.
The nomination for the two post will be called at the general counsel. It is expected that DMK veteran Duraimurugan will be elected as a treasurer of the party. He is currently serving as principal secretary of DMK.
Mr Stalin was the second child of Mr Karunanidhi from the second wife. Mr Karunanidhi called him a ‘political heir’.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is a political party in Tamil Nadu founded by C.N Annadurai in 1949. After the death of party founder in 1969, the party had been operating under the shadow of M. Karunanidhi until his death on 7 August 2018.
Mr Karunanidhi had served the state as a Chief Minister for five times. The party headquarter is named as Anna Arivalayam and is located at Anna Salai, Tamil Nadu.
The DMK is the first party which competes with Indian National Congress and had even won the election with the majority in the state.
Mr Karunanidhi has served the party for 49 years after the death of C.N Annadurai. The DMK leader Karunanidhi died on 7 August of this year due to various organ failure and age-related diseases.
