On Saturday, BJP won the urban local body polls in four districts of south Kashmir. BJP won 53 seats out of the 132 wards, where voting was done in four phases earlier this month. The record-breaking victory of the BJP has given it the power of at least four of the 20 civic bodies in the four districts which comprise Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, and Shopian.

So far, only the results of 94 regions of south Kashmir have been announced in which the Congress also succeeded to win 28 seats. Following this, the party will have the power to control at least three municipal bodies. The BJP did great in Shopian where its members won in 12 areas unrestricted. Five areas in the districts did not have any nominations.

BJP Party won all eight seats In Devsar municipal committee. This area is embodied by the Mohammad Amin Bhat Congress leader in the parliamentary congress. Winning four out of all seven areas, BJP got a majority because other three areas had no nominations.  In the Pahalgam municipal committee, the party won seven out of 13 seats without any restriction because there were no nominations for the remaining six wards.

On the other hand, if we talk about the Congress, they also won by a majority of seats in Dooru municipal committee, the stronghold of state Congress chief GA Mir. The party secured 14 of the 17 seats but out of 17, BJP also managed to win two seats. One seat will remain vacant, sources revealed.

Congress got a victory in Kokernag municipal committee by securing six out of eight seats. In Yaripora, the party secured three seats and the remaining three seats were vacant because of nonappearance of the candidates.

The calculation of the total votes of Anantnag and Mattan the other two civic bodies in south Kashmir is still going on and the results will be declared soon.
